Special Request is on ten festival bills this year, Paul Woolford on two

Same DJ, two names. Look him up as Paul Woolford and you'd see two of his ten festivals this year.

Paul Woolford had a busy festival year. You'd only know it if you followed the right name.

Ten festival lineups in our catalog print Special Request this year. That's the name Woolford puts on his breakbeat and jungle records, the sound he first heard on UK pirate radio. Two lineups print Paul Woolford, and both of those, Hideout in Croatia and Bass Coast in British Columbia, carry Special Request too.

So the alias is on every festival bill he has this year. His own name is on two.

Ten bills, one DJ

Here's his year in order. Five countries, three continents, the same name on every poster:

Look him up as Paul Woolford and two of those ten are on his page.

The alias took over

Over the whole record, his own name still leads: 49 festival bills as Paul Woolford going back to 2004, and 40 as Special Request since 2014. From 2014 through 2023, Paul Woolford led or tied every year except 2016.

Then it flipped. Four bills to one in 2024, four to two in 2025, ten to two this year.

He isn't the only one

Every name on a lineup keeps its own count in our catalog, so the same split turns up all over it:

None of this is the data getting it wrong. A different name usually means a different set, and the poster prints the one that was booked.

What changed in the app today

Until today, Eric Prydz, Cirez D and Pryda were three artist pages that never mentioned each other.

Now each artist page says what else the act is billed as, right under the name: also billed as, formerly, now billed as. Search lists an act's other names next to the one you typed. Follow one of an act's names and the page offers to follow the rest in one tap.

Nothing was merged. Each name keeps its own bookings and its own count, which is the only reason this post can tell you Special Request out-billed Paul Woolford.

The full list is at electricstate.app/aliases: 62 acts, A to Z, with every name's count and a source for each one.

If you follow Paul Woolford, follow Special Request too. Then run the DJs you already follow against the list.

Counts are festival editions in the Electric State catalog that print the name on the lineup: 3,113 editions as of 31 October 2026. Each name is counted on its own, so Hideout and Bass Coast count once for Paul Woolford and once for Special Request.

Electric State is free on the App Store, on Google Play, and at electricstate.app — lineups, artist pages and the alias list this post is computed from.
