EDC Colombia and EDC Thailand are 11,000 miles apart and share 19 acts

EDC Colombia plays Parque Norte in Medellín on 10 and 11 October. Ten weeks later, EDC Thailand plays Rhythm Park in Phuket. The two sites are 11,374 miles apart, straight-line. They share 19 acts.

No two festivals in different countries share more than that in our catalog.

How rare 19 is

We hold 82 upcoming festivals with 20 or more named acts. Pair them up and 1,168 pairs share at least one act. Only six pairs share more than 19, and every one of them is two festivals in the same country. Austin City Limits' two weekends are one of those six. So are two Australian festivals running over the same New Year.

The best pair across a border after this one is Amsterdam Dance Event and EDC Orlando, at 14.

It holds from both ends. Of every festival we track, EDC Thailand is the one closest to EDC Colombia's bill. EDC Colombia is the one closest to EDC Thailand's. For Colombia the next best is 10. For Thailand it's 13.

Distance isn't what decides it

You'd expect the EDC editions nearest Medellín to look most like it. They don't.

EDC Orlando is the closest of the three by a long way, and a month after Medellín. It shares seven. EDC Korea is the week before and shares ten. Phuket is the furthest and the latest, and it shares the most.

Counting every EDC we hold, 33 of Colombia's 100 acts are on at least one other.

Who makes the trip

The 19 cover a lot of ground. Above & Beyond, Jamie Jones, CamelPhat, Green Velvet, Vintage Culture, Showtek, Hannah Laing and Kaskade are all on both bills.

Most of them are busy. Subtronics is on 13 of our festivals, more than anyone else in the 19. Only two play these two festivals and nothing else we track: WORSHIP and PETERBLUE. Their artist pages each show two upcoming shows, Medellín and Phuket.

The top of the bill is heavy too. Four of the ten acts on our Most Booked board are playing Medellín: Kaskade, Subtronics, ILLENIUM and Armin van Buuren. No other festival of the 82 has more than three.

What the number is and isn't

EDC is one brand, run by one company, so some repetition is the plan, not an accident. What's odd is where the repetition lands.

Nineteen is also less than a fifth of the bill. The other 81 acts aren't in Phuket. Forty-three of Colombia's 100 play no other festival we track, which puts it right in the middle of the 82. That number needs a caution. EDC Colombia is the only festival in Colombia we hold, and we hold very few in Latin America. Some of those 43 will be playing festivals we don't track.

We count 100 acts, not the 103 the lineup lists. Three of the entries are stage takeovers, not acts.

If you're going to Medellín, the useful part is the other side of that number. Most of the bill's biggest names are also doing the rounds, so if you miss Kaskade or Subtronics here each has other dates in our catalog. The 43 one-offs are the part only Medellín has. Open the lineup in the app and follow a few you don't know before 10 October.
